Giddy with Happiness

A couple weeks back I took part in a poetry contest. I rarely write poetry (I prefer reading them), but for the sake of exposure and experience, I participated.

What inspired me to pen down this poem? Some of you might be wondering about it. It’s nothing extraordinary, really. I once saw a short video. Emma Stone was asked to describe love in two words. She said

Honesty
&
Vulnerability

I don’t know why, but her answer gets me. Thus, the poem.

So I was scrolling down the news feed on Facebook when a post by The Writers Club caught my eye.

So we shortlisted 5 pieces to read during our Kiss92FM interview but we only had time to read 3 on-air. We wish we could post up ALL the entries but we’d end up spamming you. There were many great entries and eventually, the main criteria for selection was length and suitability for the radio segment. We’re going to post up the 5 that we shortlisted, starting with the first one that we read out:

By Priscilla
Love is profound and sacred Embracing one another
With affection and vulnerability Eyes sparkling
Cheeks glowing
I wanted to be kissed
And I was kissed

Unbelievable! Reading the rest of the entries, I still find it hard to believe that the crew picked my short poem. Maybe they picked it because it was short and sweet. It’s a privilege. Though it’s highly unlikely that they’ll see this post, I want to take the time to thank them. I’m extremely fortunate, really. There are so many more talented and experienced poets out there who aren’t lucky to have this recognition. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I actually missed the broadcast, but the team was sweet enough to get us the audio clip.
